about

This album was created for the multi-sensory exhibition, "Beyond Sight," at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center. When asked to contribute music for the show, I decided to create variations of a previously released song (track 5*), with the intention of appealing to different sensibilities. I burned these songs to a CD; visitors could listen via a portable CD player mounted on the wall. Next to the CD player hung a clipboard, on which visitors could vote on their favorite version.

It meant a lot to me to be part of this show, having worked with people of many abilities over the years in a social work context. The Center's mission of increased accessibility speaks to me and my passion for people on the fringes who may not have the same kind of access to art in its traditional forms. The exhibition drew a large number of blind and low-vision people, some of whom I got to interact with and talk about the work.

It was exciting to showcase my music in a gallery setting (a first, for sure). This intersection of art and music is something I will continue exploring in the future.

*There is a slight difference in the way the music was presented in the gallery: I included a short clip of the original song as the final track on the CD. Here I have included the song in its entirety, which you can download for free (along with the other four tracks). Xoxo - Inko

Press release for Beyond Sight:
"A multisensory exhibition that explores the relationship between aesthetics and utility while centering accessibility.
In the art world, the definition of function has taken on new dimensions, challenging traditional definitions by pushing the boundaries of creativity in a way that engages multiple senses. The goal of this exhibition is to expand the ways in which people can appreciate art and increase access to a wider audience."
